Ghana loses her Father,Leader and President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills

Former President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills (21 July 1944-24July 2012)

Ghana has lost her President, Leader and Father John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills (born 21 July 1944 - died 24 July 2012) ! Unexpected, sad, heartbreaking, shocking was this news to everyone in my office this afternoon as we listen to JoyFms breaking news on how he passed away in the 37 Hospital whilst undergoing medical treatment.

BBC news reports this as well.

There arent enough words to express the sorrow and shock in my heart. This has never happened in Ghana and Ghanaians are terribly terribly saddened and shocked.  At a time like this all i can think of was his integrity and how he stuck by his guns during his leadership. He just celebrated his 68th birthday just this weekend. This is a time to mourn and to come together as Ghanaians and forget our political rumbles and arguments.
The Vice President John Mahama will soon   be addressing  the nation and JoyFm reports that Parliament will be swearing in the Vice President as President at 6pm.

Here is a brief political history on former President Atta Mills culled from Wikipedia ( which has updated its records already)

He was inaugurated on 7 January 2009, having defeated the ruling party candidate Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2008 election.[3] He was Vice-President from 1997 to 2001 under President Jerry Rawlings, and stood unsuccessfully in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections as the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He died on 24 July 2012.

To his family, 'Be comforted in the Lord, May He strengthen and give you peace in this difficult time. John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, Rest in Absolute Perfect Peace, you have done your work.'
