Naa Aku works at CupCake Boutique one of Accra's rising specialists in gourmet cupcakes. It's a place i love to sit and work and enjoy a good cup of Earl Grey's tea with the best salmon sandwiches in town. So I noticed her natural hair peeking beneath her cap and asked if she was to which she nodded. We had a chat about her natural hair journey. 

You made a decision to go back to your kpenkpeshie. Why?

N.A My relaxed was shedding. My hair too is very soft so to save it, I cut it. 

How long has it been then?

N.A Its actually not been a year. Both of my parents have hair and that explains my current length.  

I am sure you have a Maintenance regime. Care to share what it is?

N.A Its mostly shampooing with aloe vera shampoo which works for me. I then condition with  coconut and avocado conditioners. 

How did people react on your new change?

Interestingly people admired it. Some give passed some negative comments about how the hair falls out etc. They said negative comments but I didn't pay attention to them because it was on my head and it's my hair!

Go back to perm 

N.A I wanted to some time ago but now I don't want to. I almost gave up. I would wake up in the morning sometimes and look at it and would marvel how I really looked good in it and change my mind. I look perfect in my natural hair. So no, I don't think I will go back to relaxing my hair.
