Savouring Parisian & Italian Delights: A Culinary Experience At Pâte à Choux Ghana.

Savouring Parisian & Italian Delights: A Culinary Experience At Pâte à Choux Ghana.

The entire stretch of Dade St. in Labone has over the years slowly transformed into a mid to high end restaurants and pubs serving continental cuisines ranging from Japanese, Korean, Spanish, British and more recently French-Italian. I was avoiding traffic one time and decided to cut through that commercial street when I noticed Pate a Choux looking pristine with well-trimmed balcony shrubs and a green canopy lining the frontage with it’s logo still looking fresh as though printed yesterday. I mentally bookmarked it after perusing through their instagram page later in the day.

One fine evening, I met up with a friend at this new culinary haven which is open 7am to 11am daily. Inside, the air was moderately chill with tasteful and elegant decor befitting the instagram -worthy crowd but with subtlety of floral sofas and four to two person dining furniture. I liked it. It reminded me of a cozy bistro in Paris.

With a menu curated to delight both French and Italian food enthusiasts, diners can savor a diverse array of dishes from pizza’s , pasta dishes and the usual protein suspects. I was starving by the time my order of Lemony Chicken and sauteed potatoes arrived , twenty minutes after ordering it. My friend’s order was mixed up and corrected after we pointed it out. Conversation flow was healthy and music was at a sensible level where you could actually hear yourself and the other person talk. It was a busy Friday evening with waiters dashing about in stylish green aprons.

A well-thought out plating made me salivate.

Even my friend’s Grilled King Prawns with mashed potatoes looked inviting. The oven grilled chicken breast had been cooked a little too well which made it chewy but the filling of spinach and some cheese made up for that. The lemony sauce really stood out a little too sour on the palate but it was smooth and creamy and the finely sauteed potatoes helped to balance it out. It was truly lemony :-D.

I tasted my friend's meal as expected from my gender 😆. The prawns were meaty and nicely seasoned .

Desserts were finished by the time we were done with our meal so I chose to have a latte. To my surprise a hot latte was served in a long conical glass usually reserved for milkshakes. There was no way I was going to try and hold a hot glass so I requested for a regular mug and this was promptly done. Now that felt more like it! The coffee was excellent! It was a perfect closure to all that comfort food. Good food and excellent conversations leads to a really fulfilling night and I was already yawning by 10pm.

The restaurant deserved a second visit when I needed a place to sit and write out some ideas. The weather was too warm to sit out on the porch or balcony space overlooking the street. To my surprise, it was busy on a Sunday early evening with diners having animated conversations over beers, coffee and light meals. I was in the mood for an excellent latte and a croissant. I had seen croissants at Fairway Supermarket some days earlier in a special shelf space marked for only Pate a Choux but I’d rather have a first try from the bakers themselves. So here I was, seated beside an artificial bonsai tree with my writing tools ready. My order was mixed up and had to be remade and once again I had to ask for a mug. Well, the correction came with a beautiful latte art to appease my spirit. I smiled inwardly. The chocolate croissant was worth the wait ! It was the perfect golden color looking like it had been coated with a TikTok filter for food. It’s flakiness didn’t cause it to fall apart but displayed an airy and light crust. Delicious!

It’s a pricey restaurant so carry about Ghc 600 to GHC1000 if you expect to have a three course dinner by yourself or with a date. Taxes alone will be about Ghc 80 plus. There’s parking out front on the other end of the street but on more busy days one might have to park further up the road. Security men smartly guided diners into parking slots. Service was quick and attentive despite the errors which I completely understand for a new upscale restaurant which gets busy during it’s early opening months.

Whether you seek a romantic dinner for two or a celebratory feast with friends and family, this new French-Italian restaurant in Accra promises an unforgettable gastronomic journey.
