The Fab-tural Natural Hair & Skin Products At The Natural Beauty Bazaar in Accra.

Natural lifestylers never had it so good as they did during Natural Beauty Bazaar (#NBBGH14) held recently at the Dubois Center in Accra. As searing as the sun was that day so also was the vast display of organic foods, natural hair and skin products, African handicrafts and jewelry all jumbled in nicely with several hair talks with the coily pro’s. From shea butter products for men and women to coconut laden magic skin and hair creams, the day was filled with a rich array of products any natural lifestyler would dream of

Ivy Prosper Spills It All On Secrets To Great Natural Hair and How Ghanaian Women Can Be So Much More!

I often get asked that question and I think it's often a question people want to know theanswer to because women are looking to someone as an inspiration for how long they can remain ‘natural’. I’ve been natural nearly half my life. I’ve grown it, cut it, grown it again. Had breakage from braiding. Breakage from dryness. Grow again. Cut again. For me, going natural had nothing to do with any 'movement' or going 'back to my roots'. It was really a decision made because it was expensive to keep relaxing my hair and I had an incident where thesalon left the relaxer on too long and I ended up with burned scalp that turned into an infection. Believe it or not I continued...

There are a few spa’s in Ghana providing wellness and grooming services to bring relaxation, improve blood circulation and boost one’s self-esteem. A good example is Ariel’s Haven Salon & Spa, an intimate spa providing personal detailed services for facials, massages, manicures and pedicures for both men and women.

I went there to get my first facial done after a stressful week of juggling a day job and my crafts work.

This Is What Happened At The Natural Hair Event In Accra- Afrotastic2014

Women in Ghana are going back to their roots of growing natural hair aka kpenkpeshie. I believe its moved past being a hair trend to become a sankofa lifestyle which never should have even become lost and is here to stay.

I am deep in my transition stages, seven months going strong and I can't wait. A few questions I have asked myself is, so when I become natural how do I maintain it and with what? Imagine my surprise when I was told that the hair products used on permed couldn't be used on natural hair. But why was i surprised? It makes perfect sense. Whatever straightens kinky hair will rather destroy that same hair if you are trying to go back to coily hair.

How To Make A Simple But Fabulous Kinky Twist HairStyle

Kinky twists have been around for some time. I never really thought they were the type of hair braid to look good on me. First of all, they look tough and non-flexible and it looked like a one way styled hair because every woman i saw with one had it just straight down and short. Just boring. But then over time, the weave used to braid kinky twists got softer and more flexible. Hallelujah! I still didnt try it out. Until last three weeks, when i run out of options on what to do to my transitioning hair that I decided to try the hair that looked like palm kernel female husks (the one that was lit and placed in a bowl to drive away mosquitoes).

Naturally I went to Pinterest for some inspiration and I came across loads of cool pinspiration on long kinky twists. I gathered my vim and went to Auntie Alice and got them done! Boy was it fast too.. i was done in less than 3 hours! I chose to do shoulder length twist braids with Carribean curls because I didnt want to get bored with a monotonous style so as to keep the hair as long as possible. Now I cant get enough of it!

Wig caps. The trendy hairstyle for many African women looking to save time at the salon and money spent on weave-ons.

I have a few wig caps myself after I realised how much time and money I could save on my hair life. But after my first three I was faced with a challenge; how on earth am I going to maintain the shape of the cap? O_o??? There was no way I was going to buy mannequin heads for wigs and display them in my room (storage lacking as well) because that would have looked really weird!

The Best & Worst of Having Box Braids.

Twist braids have always been a personal favorite of mine. It was faster to braid which meant less time at the salon and it was easier to take off but not when its alot on the head.

Then came along box braids. It's like being transported back to the 90's and the days of Patra. Thicker and longer than their twists colleagues; box braids hit every social network from Pinterest to Instagram.

How To Style Twist Braids Into a Mohawk.

t was hot last week Sunday after church. It was one of those hot days where all you wanted to do was either have a chilled glass of coke (which I had sworn not to drink this year) and just chill beneath the swirling ceiling fan. I told myself after changing from my Sunday best that there was no way my twist braids was going to hang around my shoulders or have it anywhere on my skin.  I suddenly got a brainwave to pull all my braids up and do something crazy and new.
