For the past five years, The Ghana-UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards has awarded several individuals who have excelled within the British Ghanaian community whilst also seeking to promote greater cultural diversity in the UK. The awards have been presented to musicians, actors, social entrepreneurs and more during its inception in October 2010. 

The GUBA Awards 2015 was launched this week at the British High Commissioners residence in Accra and the event hosted several celebrities and personalities.

What is it about Dumsor that it makes one lose vim to do anything productive? Even if that thing doesn't involve the use of electricity? Sighs! Thats exactly how I felt just when I was about to dive into making this Mango and Avocado salsa, totally killed my vim mood and I moved the recipe to the next day. #DumsorMustReallyStop ! 

Soo... have great 10 minutes fun trying out this salsa which rocks with seafood or grilled chicken! Yummy!

When I was asked if I wanted to be a “GangLeader”  for a blogwalk as part of #blogcamp15, I saw it as an opportunity to do something different and exciting! After all how many times did I get the chance to capture a suburb of Kumasi with my own gang members? Like never.

#SuameGang, #AsafoGang and #AdumGang were the three gangs  set to pitch against each other to determine the best gang to have the best and most photos of a suburb in Kumasi. After much planning and strategizing, my gang #SuameGang won! What a feeling it was too! We had worked hard, walked through mazes of Suame magazine metalwork shops and foundries and communicated pretty well for a group in which many people had never each other before until the walk.

I learnt some very valuable lessons whilst I was a GangLeader of the #SuameGang which I would I believe helped in helping us to win

Its avocado season in Ghana and what better time to try out avocado recipes whilst the sun is shining? Popularly called 'Paya', a turn on the word Pear, the soft and mushy fruit is a great accompaniment in many Ghanaian dishes. I love Pear with Ga Kenkey, Banku and on the side of Attieke (this idea i recently discovered at a popular spot behind the Osu mall). It goes down perfectly with bread, a bit of magarine with a giant cup of Lipton tea. Yes, my Grandma trained me well!

FashionistaGh held its annual shopping festival once again and it was still an unmissable event. The three day shopping festival #fghshop2015 was all hustle and bustle in the bristling 33 degree heat. Despite numberous air-conditioning, the heat just refused to leave the white enclave drenching both vendors and buyers in uncompromising sweat! Nevertheless both participants had a grand time strolling through hundreds of stands and emptying their pockets for the latest African fashion and accessories.

The euphoria has almost waned out for many Ghanaian bloggers who attended the glitzy purply social media awards night organised by Blogging Ghana at the serene Coconut Grove Regency Hotel. My euphoria however is still on cloud 6, as I got to do something different this year! I was given the spot of holding red-carpet interviews with the invited guests, nominees and bloggers before the show started. That was a memorable experience and actually came close to being an E! show!

The first Mandela Washington Fellowship Conference was held in Accra recently and the event brought together a great number of young leaders from 21 West African countries. The conference was organised to bring together the young leaders of YALI (Young African Leaders Intiative) to enable them to share their expertise and engage on issues which they have defined as critical for the future of Africa. 

The first day's session, saw prominent leaders such as U.S Ambassador to Ghana, Gene A. Cretz, Deputy Minister of Education Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Patrick Awuah Jr, Founder of Ashesi University, Ghana.

Some say its not African print because it was the Dutch (Vlisco) who brought it to our shores. So what were we wearing before they did? I would have to find that out. But what I know is that most of these prints have a story behind the designs. There are some fabrics with designs dating way back in my great grandmother’s time and possibly before. A few of these can still be seen today. 

Why is it that some patterns have tortoises on them and some parade large fans in bold and dazzling colors? Its easy to see fingers, lipstick, elephants, birds etc in the array of patterns on our African print. I was curious to find out what each meant, after all its what we wear and there has to be more to the story of the designs on our African print.

This is a perfect meal for breakfast and an early evening meal for those  not wanting to eat heavy. Mushrooms are currently in season in the country which makes it a perfect time to make all kinds of dishes. The vegetable which is gluten-free, cholesterol free, fat-free and low in calories and very low in sodium provides important nutrients such as selenium, niacin and vitamin D.  Mixing this with more vegetables was guaranteed to see me through my busy schedule for the day which included a visit to the printers
